API Governance is an essential element of an organization’s API strategy. We discuss it often – but almost always from the viewpoint of builders, with a focus on discovering ways to deploy proper governance with minimal personal and organizational aggravation. What is harder to see, but great to experience, is the unexpected benefits of Good API Governance for the API consumer. It is time we develop a new frame of reference for understanding governance, not only for building and deploying, but also in consuming APIs.
