An event-driven architecture, or EDA, is an architecture based on the concept of an event that drives interactions or results. The components or services communicate with each other by generating, detecting, and responding to events, which represent significant changes or occurrences within the system or its environment. Some of the key characteristics include asynchronous communication patterns, fault tolerance and resilience, complex event processing systems, event sources, and event processing.
