Every API starts with a plan. You have a clear goal, you put together the team, and then you set out. The first steps of your journey go exactly as expected. Then something changes. That little detour leads you down a new path dealing with obstacles you never imagined. Even when you reach the end, you have to face the biggest threat of all.

A plan is not enough. The right tools are not enough. The right party is not even enough. We also have to find that little bit of magic that lets us turn a terrible situation into the treasure we hoped to find.
