Open Banking Security Standards

Chris Wood Ozone API

Open banking – and the regulations that have spurred this area of financial services into life – has seen many banks take a huge leap into the API Economy. With it comes a plethora of opportunities, with new markets and potential customers, but also threats with internet-facing interfaces for API Consumers largely unknown to the bank in a still-evolving business and technology landscape. Almost all open banking initiatives around the world have adopted or evolved API security standards to cope with these new threats. In this presentation, we’ll take a peek at some of these standards – why they have been implemented, how they work, and the kind of use cases they are intended to meet. We’ll cover FAPI, eIDAS, and also some evolving standards that could have a significant impact on open banking user experiences like Webauthn.
