Not too long ago, standards compliance was the primary goal of the API designer. Conformance to standards remains a priority; however, today’s designers are now focused on improving the simplicity, ease-of-use and overall experience of using the API.
While the API designer’s goal has evolved to this developer-centric model, the design process often remain the same. Resulting in an interface that under-delivers on the initial usability goal. Is there an opportunity to improve our design methods to reflect this new focus on usage?
This talk will explore the nature of design, the shift in perspective that is needed and identify experimental techniques and tooling that could improve the conventional API design process.
