API Management Patterns in Highly Disaggregated Architectures

The growth of customer demand has given rise to highly disaggregated architectures such as microservices and serverless. But, with this, the management of these large number of decentralized components became a problem. For this, mechanisms such as service meshes have been introduced, in order to do service governance, and managing the connectivity between microservices. The next question is, how do we expose and manage these services as APIs. There are many approaches involved to solve this problem. Few of the patterns we will be looking at is as follows:

  • Micro-gateways
  • Retrofitting service meshes for API management
  • Code-first API management
