The API and Non-API Developer Communities: How They Differ in Size and Profile

The developer ecosystem has been expanding rapidly over the last few years, and the emergence of new technologies and APIs was one of the key drivers behind the boom. As the barriers to entry to the ecosystem were lowered, the developer community not only grew in size, but also changed in profile.

In this session, and based on data from our Developer Economics surveys that receive more than 30,000 responses annually, we will discuss the relative size of the API and non-API developer communities. We’ll look into both the community size and the profile of the developers who use third-party APIs, and compare them to those who only use private or internal APIs, and to those who don’t use any APIs at all.

Some of the key questions we will be answering are: How many developers use APIs versus not? In which development areas is the usage of APIs more prevalent? How does the profile of those who use internal/private APIs differ from those who use third-party APIs? Are the less experienced developers using APIs more than the seasoned ones? Are some roles more likely to be using third party APIs than others – such as data engineers?

Join us in a discussion where we put the growth and profile of the API developer community into perspective – with data.
