Historically in Danske Bank, we have had a monolithic approach to application architecture. Building great applications that are very good at what they do, but with very tightly coupled components, limited scalability options and interfaces that are difficult to reuse.
However, in an industry with multifaceted competition from resourceful companies like Google, Amazon and Facebook and with agile fin-techs popping up on frequent basis, and where regulatory requirements requires more and more attention, we need to be able to move much faster than we are today.
In the quest for lower time-to-market, we set out for a journey to migrate our monolith application to a set of loosely coupled Microservices. Everybody knows there are no Silver bullets and Microservices architecture certainly has its challenges.
In this session, we will explore how Customer Information in Danske Bank have tackled the challenges Microservices Architecture introduces; broken transaction scope, eventual consistency, batch execution, sizing of services, how to handle operations and not least the cultural aspects of changing the mind-set in a large organisation.
